Take the Lead: How to Find Trusted Women’s Health Information – with Dr Sneha

Women’s Health Week 2025: Take the Lead

Doctor with patient

Curated by Dr Sneha Wadhwani, GP and National Clinical Director of Evoca Women’s Health

Today’s theme is all about taking the lead in your health journey. And honestly, that starts with something really simple: knowing where to get your information.

Why it matters

I’ll be honest, there’s a lot of noise out there when it comes to women’s health. Social media posts, TikTok trends, wellness “hacks”… some are harmless, but others can be misleading, or worse, harmful. I’ve seen patients walk into my room feeling anxious or guilty about something they read online that wasn’t even true.

That’s why I want you to feel confident about where you’re getting your health information. It makes all the difference.

Be informed (from the right places)

When you’re searching for answers, stick with trusted sources. Some of my favourites include:

And don’t forget, there are some brilliant podcasts run by AHPRA-registered doctors in women’s health.
Pop them on during your commute or walk – you’ll be learning from experts, not influencers.

Challenge misinformation (politely!)

If you come across something online that sounds too good to be true… it probably is. Don’t be afraid to politely question it. You don’t need to argue, but you can say, “That’s interesting – do you mind if I check with my doctor?”

By doing that, you’re not just looking after yourself, but you might also help someone else pause and think twice.

Find the right GP for you

Here’s something important: if you see a doctor and don’t feel heard, validated, or have your questions answered, it’s okay to try someone else. Women’s health is complex, and sometimes it just takes the right fit.

A women’s health GP can be a wonderful support – someone who understands the specific challenges women face and can guide you through options without judgment.

Taking the lead in your health doesn’t mean having all the answers – it means knowing where to look and who to trust. Be curious, ask questions, and surround yourself with the right voices.

Because at the end of the day, your health is yours – and you deserve to feel empowered every step of the way.
