Dr Priya Murugiah

MBBS, FRACGP

Although born and raised in Malaysia, Dr Priya completed her MBBS at Adelaide University, before completing her GP training by working in Riverland and Barossa Valley in regional SA. Moving to NSW in 2018, Dr Priya worked in Riverstone, then in Jerrabomberra, before relocating to Canberra and starting at Phillip Medical and Dental Centre.

As an outstanding student, Dr Priya was presented with multiple awards during her years of study, including; Best Resident Medical Officer 2013 from the Lyell McEwin Hospital Intern Choice Awards, The Tun Dato’ Seri Dr Mohamed Zahir Merit Award in 2009 for excellence in academic performance and the Pre-clinical MBBS from International Medical University (IMU) in Malaysia.

Dr Priya has also volunteered her time to be an OSCE examiner/patient for Adelaide University students, PRCC Flinders Medical University students as well as for the RACGP.

Outside of medicine, you will find Dr Priya reading or spending quality time with family and friends, including her precious 8 month old daughter.

Achievements in Women’s Health

I really appreciate the small achievements with my patients from finally getting on top of their concerning symptoms/issues, feeling heard, and following their journey.
A patient sent me a touching letter on World Health Day after I diagnosed her with a rare condition that many others had missed for years.
A 16-year girl also sent me a letter thanking me for her successful progress with treatment after picking up a rare GI cancer. These are the personal moments I am most proud of.

I connect well with women, including children, adolescent and elderly. Spending time getting to know my patients is important to me, so I can address their concerns holistically and have continuous engagement to treat them through every age and stage of their life.

I am keen to continue my habits of frequent learning, updating my knowledge and growing my confidence as a practitioner so I am always providing my patients with the best care possible.
