Dr Punitha Prathapsingh

Originally from Chennai, India, Dr Punitha Prathapsingh brings a wealth of international experience to women’s healthcare in Australia. She moved to Australia in December 2024 with her husband and two children, embracing a new chapter while continuing her long-standing commitment to general practice and women’s health.
Dr Punitha completed her medical degree in 1995, followed by a Diploma in 1999 and a Master’s degree in ENT in 2001 at Dr MGR Medical University in Chennai. In 2001, she relocated to the United Kingdom, where she completed her MRCGP and DFFP and went on to practise as a General Practitioner for nearly 20 years. During this time, she served as a Women’s Health and Family Planning Lead and was actively involved as a GP educator in a training practice.
After relocating to Australia, Dr Punitha successfully attained Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in August 2025. She has continued to build on her expertise in women’s health, completing Evoca’s specialised training in intrauterine device (IUD) and implant insertion and removal in May 2025 at Southport, Queensland.
Dr Punitha has a strong passion for women’s health, inspired by her own experiences as a woman and mother. She values the role of primary care as the first point of contact for women across all life stages and is dedicated to providing accessible, respectful, and holistic care. Her clinical interests include comprehensive contraceptive services, sexual health care, antenatal and postnatal checks, menopause management, and supporting women to make informed decisions about their health.
She takes pride in empowering her patients through education and open communication, creating a safe and supportive environment where women feel heard and confident in their care. Dr Punitha is also proud of her contributions to teaching and mentoring GP trainees and nursing colleagues throughout her career.
Outside of work, Dr Punitha enjoys running, hiking, dancing, travelling, and spending time with her family. After completing the London Marathon in 2024, she continues to participate in parkruns in Rockhampton.
