Dr Alicia Altson

Beginning her studies at Melbourne University, Dr Alicia worked hospital medicine for three years and then started work in general practice in 2013.

Thriving in general practice, Dr Alicia enjoys that it gives her the opportunity to develop long term therapeutic relationships with her patients. Getting to know her patients and their families enables Dr Alicia to provide care that suits their individual circumstances and needs.

During her years in general practice, Dr Alicia has grown her own family and now has 4 busy little boys aging from 3 years to 11 years old. Being a mum takes up most of Dr Alicia’s time that is not spent at work. The weekends at Dr Alicia’s house revolve around community sport, family and friends. A guilty pleasure of Dr Alicia’s is when she gets to enjoy early mornings and time to herself so she can exercise and listen to an audiobook.

Achievements in Women’s Health

Completed a sexual and reproductive health course via Family Planning Victoria.
Training in the management of menopause and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) through Jean Hailes.
A registered prescriber through the mS-2step and therefore able to provide medical termination of pregnancy.
The achievement that I am most proud of though, is my day-to-day work with women and improving their health experience.

As much of the burden of care in our society still falls on women, including paid and unpaid work, I find that alongside the many medical problems that affect women there is a level of burnout and stress that needs to be acknowledged and addressed as part of a holistic approach to women’s health. I am passionate about not only treating specific conditions or concerns but looking at what factors contribute to a women’s health experience and how managing these might improve overall wellbeing.
